BUZZ // Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard Honor Sinéad O'Connor with Powerful 'Nothing Compares 2 U' Duet at SNL 50th Anniversary Special
Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late Sinéad O’Connor during SNL50: The Anniversary Special on Sunday, Feb. 16. The duo performed an emotional rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U, the 1990 classic that became O’Connor’s signature song.
The tribute was a standout moment of the night, honoring O’Connor’s legacy both as a musician and as a controversial yet fearless figure in Saturday Night Live history. In 1992, O’Connor made headlines when she appeared as a musical guest on SNL, performing Bob Marley’s War a cappella before tearing up a photo of Pope John Paul II—an act of protest against the Catholic Church’s handling of child abuse cases. The moment sparked widespread backlash but remained a defining part of her career.
Lorne Michaels, in the 2025 documentary Ladies and Gentleman...50 Years of SNL Music, reflected on O’Connor’s bold statement, acknowledging both the controversy and the conviction behind it. "There was a part of me that admired the bravery of what she'd done and also the absolute sincerity of it," he said.
O’Connor, who passed away in 2023, never regretted her SNL moment, later stating in her memoir Rememberings that it put her "back on the right track."
Cyrus and Howard’s moving performance paid tribute to both O’Connor’s artistry and her enduring impact on music and culture.

INTERVIEWS // Sahil Makhija
Sahil Makhija, better known as the almighty Demonstealer, has kept Demonic Resurrection alive for 25 relentless years, through lineup changes, shifting trends, and the kind of obstacles that would have broken lesser mortals.
Returning to Bangalore after nearly ten years, and to BOA since 2013, Demonstealer was visibly overwhelmed by the experience. “I’m still shaking, I’ve got goosebumps. It was quite an exciting set; coming back to Bangalore after almost 10 years I think and BOA after our last performance in 2013 I think and my first time with the new lineup and properly playing after 5 years. So yeah, it was exhilarating, anxiety-inducing, nerve-wracking but had a great time.”
As the band celebrates 25 years of sonic devastation, Demonstealer reflected on DR’s journey and evolution.
“Music is an ever-evolving journey. It’s hard to sum up 25 years into a concise answer. The thing is you try and do better with each album, as a musician, as a producer, as a songwriter and you always try and find your own sound over the years, that’s pretty much what I’ve done and I’m still evolving and growing as a musician and will continue to do so.”
