Buzz // Billie Eilish Secures her 2nd Oscar
Oscar-winning siblings Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell made Oscar history Sunday night by becoming the youngest-ever two-time winners of the Best Song trophy. Billie and Finneas took home the award for the song What Was I Made For?, an original soundtrack, that was featured on Greta Gerwig's Barbie and which Billie had performed during the ceremony as well.
The brother-sister team had previously won the award for Best Original Song in 2021 for No Time to Die in the James Bond film of the same name starring Daniel Craig.
An 87-year-old industry record was broken by 22-year-old Billie when she won her second Oscar. At the age of 22, Billie breaks the record set by Luise Rainer, who was 28 when she won her second Oscar, to become the youngest two-time recipient of the Oscar. Barbie's song "What Was I Made For?" earned her a nomination. The other song that was nominated for the evening came from the same film. The talented writers of "I'm Just Ken," a poignant tribute to Ryan Gosling, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt (best known for Shallow), are nominated for Star Is Born.
The 'bad guy' singer gave a remarkable and moving live stage rendition of the song for which she was nominated as the 96th Annual Academy Awards got underway. Eilish captivated the audience with her delicate vocal harmonies, accompanied by pianist O'Connell. One of the year's most-listened-to songs, the song had already won Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards.
